It isn't often that a resto-rod, woodie wagon, comes up for sale with the fine workmanship and attention to detail as this 1951 Mercury. As an owner of Woodies USA and the owner of Moondoggie, I am pleased to offer it for sale for the very first time after a meticulous 3 year build, using nothing but the finest of materials and technology. Moondoggie has been very popular in the show circuit with a first class trophy at the 2010 Grand National Roadster show. Also in 2010, Moondoggie was invited by Blackie Gejeian and participated in the most prestigious, invitation only, auto show on earth, THE FRESNO AUTO RAMA! Moondoggie started as a rust free, low mileage, California, black plate vehicle, assembled at the Los Angeles, Ford assembly plant.
Moondoggie is a Tiki themed, frame off restoration, resto-rod, with a most unusual drive train, a 2004, 4.6L, 4 cam, 32 valve, factory supercharged Shelby Cobra engine with the factory Cobra, T-56, 6 speed transmission with 5th and 6th gears being overdrives. The engine compartment is detailed with very intricate, hand painted, Tiki themed figures, setting off the 405 HP, 435 Ft. pounds torque, finely modified engine. The stock Cobra intercooler was modified to function along with the stock power steering and hydraboost power brakes. There is a massive, Mattson reverse flow, polished aluminum, radiator, that keeps the wagon cool even on the hottest of summer days. The powder coated, reinforced, stock Mercury frame has been modified to handle the added supercharged power plant. There is a Curry Enterprise, 3.73 gear ratio, positration, Ford 9" rear end to put the power to the pavement. The Raven black paint is flawless and the exterior Maple wood is N.O.S. (NEW OLD STOCK) and is finished by RonHeiden, with multiple coats of marine spar varnish. The interior is a stock style, 1951 Mercury, that is finely detailed, with a unique Tiki theme, that set Moondoggie apart from all the rest! The custom Tiki surfboard racks are included with the surf wagon.
Moondoggie is priced below build cost at $124,900.
